Per la prima volta un comandante pasdaran, Ali Shadmani, citato dall’Agenzia ISNA, conferma l’avvenuto acquisto di fighter Jets russi Sukhoi-35. Quello che non viene detto e’ il numero di Jets acquistati e se sono stati effettivamente consegnati. Si tratta di Jets multifunzione l’ultima versione dei quali puo’ volare fino ad una altitudine massima di 20 km ad una velocita’ massima di 2500 km orari. Come noto l’Iran dispone al momento di una flotta di aerei da combattimento americani ed ex sovietici acquistati prima della rivoluzione. Fonti iraniane avevano un paio d’anni fa’ riportato acquisti anche di elicotteri russi Mil Mi-28 e trainer Jets Yak-130. E’ significativo che l’annuncio venga dato a pochi giorni dalla firma a Mosca, lo scorso 17 gennaio, del partenariato strategico con la Russia di durata ventennale (il primo dal 2001). Dal punto di vista militare l’aviazione e’ il vero punto debole di Teheran dai tempi della guerra con l’Iraq. Le sanzioni americane hanno in seguito ulteriormente ostacolato ogni pianificazione di ammodernamento. Occorre tenere conto inoltre che nell’ambito del recente tit for tat missilistico tra Teheran e Tel Aviv, lo scorso ottobre Israele avrebbe, secondo diverse fonti, distrutto una significativa parte dei sistemi di difesa aerei iraniani, versione smentita da Teheran. L’annuncio pubblico dell’acquisto dei Sukhoi-35 potrebbe rappresentare un messaggio indirizzato all’amministrazione Trump e indirettamente ad Israele.

What is not said is the number of Jets purchased and if they have actually been delivered. These are multi-purpose jets, the latest version of which can fly up to a maximum altitude of 20 km at a maximum speed of 2500 km per hour. As we know, Iran currently has a fleet of American and ex-Soviet fighter aircraft acquired before the revolution. Iranian sources reported a couple of years ago that they also purchased Russian Mil Mi-28 helicopters and Yak-130 trainer jets. It is significant that the announcement was made just days after the signing in Moscow, on 17 January, of the twenty-year strategic partnership with Russia (the first since 2001). From a military point of view the air force is the real weak point of Tehran since the time of the war with Iraq. The US sanctions have further hampered any modernization plans. It should also be borne in mind that, as part of the recent missile strike between Tehran and Tel Aviv, last October Israel reportedly destroyed a significant part of the Iranian air defense systems, a version which was denied by Tehran. The public announcement of the purchase of the Sukhoi-35s could be a message to the Trump administration and indirectly to Israel.
